Afternoon Céilí, 3-6pm: with the Parish Céilí Band (mixture of céilí and set dancing – all welcome – caller to explain dances)
(Tickets: £10/ £6 U18s or observers)
St Agnes’ Centre (Hall).
This year, we are departing from our tradition of holding dedicated set dance céilís. Our céilí for all will feature a caller, to enable those who are less familiar with the intricacies of Irish dancing to participate.
Having met on London’s thriving traditional Irish music session scene, a number of core musicians who play fortnightly at The Parish Bar in Wembley decided to form a céilí band. This impressive 10 piece went on to win the Senior Céilí Band competition at the All Britain Fleadh in Kirkby, Lonsdale in June of this year – the first London band to win the title in over a decade. Members include: Chris Maguire (accordion), Órlaith McAuliffe (flute), Jack Boyle (banjo), Brogan McAuliffe (concertina), Rita Farrell (flute), Susan Miller (fiddle), Fiona Gaffney (fiddle), Deirdre Glynn (fiddle), Sinéad Egan (piano) and Ciaran Farrell (drums). Chris, Órlaith and Jack went on to win the Senior All Ireland Trio competition in Drogheda, in August of this year.
Dancers and listeners alike will enjoy the high-quality music on offer. Our caller, Val Knight, looks forward to welcoming you to try a mixture of céilí and set dancing. No experience or knowledge is required and beginners and seasoned dancers are all welcome.
