Meitheal Cheoil

This workshop will be an opportunity for beginners who are not attending Irish music classes to make music through talk, demonstration and hands-on music making.

Alongside Meitheal Cheoil students, this workshop will be hosted by tutors Gael Cassidy and Paddy Gallagher.

Having been brought up playing classical music, Gael Cassidy became involved in playing traditional music during time spent living in Cork and East Clare. For the past ten years, she has been learning and teaching flute and tin whistle with Meitheal Cheoil in North London.

Meitheal Cheoil is a vibrant and enthusiastic Irish Music School which organises community performances and céilís for young people alongside weekly instrumental classes.

Founded in 1994 by teachers Kathy Walton and Karen Ryan, many a young musician has been guided from the earliest stages through to concert performances, All-Ireland level competitions and the release of two CDs in 2003 and 2006.

Recent appearances include The Union Chapel, the Irish Embassy, British Library, Moreton, Smithfields and Somerstown Festivals. Members of Meitheal Cheoil will join Gael and Paddy to host today's workshop.
