John McEvoy and John Wynne

Brought up in Birmingham, John McEvoy’s parents hailed from Co. Roscommon as did his earliest musical influences. In the 1970s John lived in Ireland where he played in the band Flynn’s Men with the likes of Josie McDermott and Patsy Hanly. Moving to Dublin in the late 70s, he regularly played with Joe Ryan and John Kelly Snr. and ran a successful traditional club with John Kelly Jnr. in The Four Seasons pub.

Over the years, John has toured Europe and North America with the groups Kelp, Bakerswell, and Providence. His recordings include a solo CD Returning and in 2004 he recorded The Kilmore Fancy with his flute–playing sister Catherine.

Born in Co. Roscommon, flute player John Wynne started playing tin whistle at the age of eight under the tuition of Paddy Ryan. His flute-playing influences include Patsy Hanly, Matt Molloy, Seamus Tansey, Peter Horan and Catherine McEvoy. John was a member of the band Providence, with whom he toured extensively and recorded the albums Providence and A Fig for a Kiss and in 2000, he released a critically acclaimed solo CD With Every Breath.

John has a huge interest in the music of Sligo, Roscommon and Leitrim. He regularly plays at sessions and concerts, as well as being much sought after as a teacher at workshops and summer schools all over Ireland.

On their album The Pride of the West, these two outstanding musicians joined forces to produce one of the outstanding traditional recordings of 2007.
