London-bred, Mick launched his debut album Within a mile o’Jamestown at the festival in 2003.

Mick’s father, Tom, introduced him at an early age to the playing of Roger Sherlock, Raymond Roland, Bobby Casey, Brian Rooney, Danny Meehan and many of the other London greats.

Mick played pub sessions in the Brighton in Camden Town and in Shepherd’s Bush with Raymond Roland and Bobby Casey when in his teens. He was a founding member of the band ‘Tarbolton’ with Annette Roland, Michael Searson and Paddy Gallagher in the early 80s.

Mick’s playing is influenced by the classic ‘78 recordings of the early 20th Century, especially those of John McKenna. Packie Duignan and Josie McDermott. Matt Molloy and Séamus Tansey also inspire his playing. He returned with his family to live near his father’s home, outside Carrick on Shannon, in 2006.

He plays regularly in Cryan’s Bar in Carrick and does occasional spots at festivals and workshops including the John McKenna Festival, The Feile Frank McGann in Strokestown, The Joe Mooney Summer School and Willie Clancy week. Mick also plays with the Roscommon Flute Players and was co-producer, with John Wynne and Patsy Hanly, of Volume II of the Flute Players of Roscommon released in 2008.

Mick was involved in the ‘Leitrim Equation’ project together with Lúnasa and a host of local musicians from around Leitrim.

He has shared stage variously with Altan, Lúnasa, Dervish, At the Racket, Beginish, Paddy Keenan, Le Chéile, The London Lasses, Joe Burke and Brian Conway, Brian Rooney and many others. Mick is launching his second solo CD Bridging the Gap at this year’s festival.
