The Abbey Céilí BandThe Abbey Céilí Band started out in Co. Cork in 1995 with just two musicians - Ger Murphy on accordion and Micheál Creedon on keyboard. They originally got together to play for a weekly set dancing session at the Abbey Hotel in Ballyvourney. After several months, Liam Forde sat in on banjo, impressing Ger and Micheál sufficiently to be invited to join them regularly. A short while later, Andrew O’Connell turned up with his fiddle and the band was complete. John Coakley has since replaced Micheál Creedon on keyboard. Playing around their local area, they soon acquired a name for their solid, crisp sound and arrangements. Venturing further afield, they cemented their reputation with appearances at the Dan Furey weekend in Labersheeda and the Willie Clancy summer school in Milltown Malbay. Today, they perform all over Ireland and have been featured on RTÉ Radio’s popular programme, Céilí House. The Abbey Céilí Band Band is noted for the full sound it produces with just four musicians, creating the level of impact one would normally expect from a much larger group. We are pleased to welcome them back after their popular appearance in 2007. |
